Academic Honesty in Research and Writing

In addition to picking your research sources wisely, you should also take care to give credit to those sources. According to the LAHS Student Handbook, "Plagiarism, copying, cheating, and/or presenting material as one’s own when it is not, including materials undocumented from the internet, are dishonest…The consequence of academic dishonesty includes an automatic zero for the assignment or test which may lead to an F for the term and/or an F for the semester." (“Student Handbook” 11). For clarification, “three different acts are considered plagiarism: (1) failing to cite quotations and borrowed ideas, (2) failing to enclose borrowed language in quotation marks, and (3) failing to put summaries and paraphrases in your own words” (Hacker 107).
